Chilly days of fall are heralding the festive holiday season. It’s a great time to enjoy the soothing flavors of exotic spices combined with a spot of Irish warmth! Try this simple recipe for a Masala Chai Toddy:

2 heaping teaspoons Masala Chai tea (we used Adagio’s)

Brown sugar to taste, 1 – 2 teaspoons

½ – 1 oz. Irish cream liqueur

Cinnamon stick

Steep tea in 8 oz. of boiling water for about 2 minutes. Add sugar and liqueur, garnish with a cinnamon stick stirrer.

Have some spices and good black tea in your cabinet? If you’d like to try your own masala chai mixture, try the following combination. Add the following crushed spices to a small saucepan together with ½ cup milk, ½ cup water. Bring to a brief boil.

Steep Ceylon tea (or other black tea such as Assam). Combine spiced milk and steeped tea. Add sugar to taste, and a little Irish cream liqueur.

  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 2 black peppercorns
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ½ inch piece ginger, peeled and chopped
